FCA warned in September 2022 that FTX was unauthorised in the UK

Archive note: This article records a UK regulatory warning first published on 16 September 2022.

The Financial Conduct Authority said it believed FTX was providing financial services or products in the United Kingdom without its authorisation. The FCA warned that customers dealing with the firm would not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or protection from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme for those activities.

The warning concerned FTX's UK authorisation status. It was published before FTX's November 2022 bankruptcy and should not be read as a contemporaneous insolvency finding.
