Do Kwon disputed 2022 freeze reports; a later US case ended in a 15-year sentence

Archive note: This article separates competing reports from 2022 from a later US criminal case.

In 2022, Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon publicly disputed reports that authorities had frozen assets linked to him. The original claims and his denial belonged to an unresolved, contemporaneous news cycle and should not be presented as a settled fact.

In a separate later US proceeding, Kwon pleaded guilty in August 2025 to fraud charges connected to Terraform and was sentenced in December 2025 to 15 years in prison. Different countries and proceedings should not be conflated.

Primary source for the later outcome: US Department of Justice sentencing release, 11 December 2025.

This is a historical legal report, not investment advice.
