How G20 crypto-policy work advanced after 2022

Archive note: This article has been rewritten as a dated summary of international policy coordination.

In 2023, the Financial Stability Board and International Monetary Fund published a synthesis paper and implementation roadmap for crypto-asset policy. The work brought together recommendations on financial stability, regulation, supervision and macroeconomic risks.

These international recommendations were not self-executing domestic law. Each jurisdiction remained responsible for implementation. A 2024 FSB status report said progress had been made but implementation remained uneven, creating risks of regulatory arbitrage and offshore activity.

Primary sources: IMF-FSB synthesis paper; 2024 status report.

This historical policy report is not investment advice.
